Academic Head of School Responsibilities

The Academic Head of School is appointed by the President of North Cambridge Catholic High School, Inc.

The Academic Head of School is directly responsible to the President  and is delegated by the President to oversee the day-to-day academic operation of the school and  its programs. The Academic Head of School performs other duties as assigned by the President.

  1. Faculty
  1. Recruits new faculty. Establishes the interview process in conjunction with the Faculty Hiring Committee who submit recommendations to the Academic Head of School who then submits these recommendations to the President for approval.
  2. Directs the development and evaluation of all faculty and coaches. The Academic Head of School and the Faculty Hiring Committee make recommendations to the President in relation to the hiring of faculty and coaches.
  3. Conducts one-on-one evaluative conferences with teachers.
  4. Makes recommendations to the President in regard to the number of faculty and coaches needed to run an efficient educational program in relation to the total budget.
  5. Organizes programs and in-service for the professional growth of the faculty.
  6. Determines teaching assignments and assigns other professional responsibilities in collaboration with the President as the needs of the school require.
  7. Determines staffing patterns and class sizes with the approval of the President.
  8. Compiles and maintains faculty/coach personnel files including the daily attendance records.
  9. Evaluates requests from faculty for personal and professional days.
  10. Supervises the orientation of new faculty members in conjunction with the Assistant Academic Dean.
  11. Oversees the agenda for faulty meetings with the chairperson and is in attendance at all faculty meetings.
  12. Reviews and revises the Faculty Handbook and makes recommendations to the President.
  13. Conducts and coordinates faculty evaluations including classroom observations and other observable and reported data including a written self-evaluation at the end of each academic year.
  14. Oversees the performance of student teachers.
  15. Supervises and evaluates all faculty/coaches who moderate student activities.

  1. Is the instructional leader of the school.

  1. Is responsible for the general order that exists in the school and the physical safety of all occupants of the building.
  2. Serves as a member of the Admissions Team and participates in the Interview Process which includes Saturday interviews during the course of the year. The President has the responsibility to make the final decision in the Admissions process.
  3. Is responsible for making recommendations to the President for the admission and dismissal of students.
  4. Shares with the Admissions Director the responsibility for the recruitment of students.
  5. Coordinates, evaluates and approves all student activities in conjunction with the President.
  6. Oversees and evaluates all interscholastic athletics in accordance with school and local league and MIAA State Policies.

  5. Establishes the dates and the procedures for the Parent/Guardian/Teacher, CWSP staff Report Card Conferences.

  1. Supervises and evaluates the Dean of Students, the College Counselor, the Personal Counselor, the Athletic Director the school nurse, library staff and technology staff and their programs.
  2. Monitors and evaluates the administrative assistant/s in the school’s academic administrative offices.
  3. Determines the school calendar in conjunction with the Catholic Schools Office of the Archdiocese of Boston and the Requirements of the Cristo Rey Network in conjunction with the President.
  4. Completes annual reports for the State, Archdiocese of Boston, the National Catholic Educational Association and Federal Government when required.
  5. Supervises and coordinates the keeping of all academic school records.
  6. Approves of all changes in the permanent school records.
  7. Approves the waiver of any school graduation regulations  with the President
  8. Is responsible for the student orientation program in August of each school year.

  15. Oversees in conjunction with the Plant Manager the maintenance of all locks, alarms, the distribution of keys etc.
  16. Serves as the advisor to the Parent Advisory Council.

  1. Oversees school mailings to keep parents/guardians informed about the school, its programs and activities.

As the Academic Head of School serves as a liaison with the Director of Curriculum of the Cristo Rey Network, the Massachusetts Department of Education, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, the Catholic Schools Office of the Archdiocese of Boston and other Cristo Rey Network schools, Catholic schools and local public and charter schools.
  3. Submits a report to the President of the school 5 times annually prior to each Board of Trustees meetings.

Academic Head of School Responsibilities

The Academic Head of School is appointed by the President of North Cambridge Catholic High School, Inc.

The Academic Head of School is directly responsible to the President  and is delegated by the President to oversee the day-to-day academic operation of the school and  its programs. The Academic Head of School performs other duties as assigned by the President.

  1. Faculty

  1. Supervises and evaluates the Dean of Students, the College Counselor, the Personal Counselor, the Athletic Director the school nurse, library staff and technology staff and their programs.
  2. Monitors and evaluates the administrative assistant/s in the school’s academic administrative offices.
  3. Determines the school calendar in conjunction with the Catholic Schools Office of the Archdiocese of Boston and the Requirements of the Cristo Rey Network in conjunction with the President.
  4. Completes annual reports for the State, Archdiocese of Boston, the National Catholic Educational Association and Federal Government when required.
  5. Supervises and coordinates the keeping of all academic school records.
  6. Approves of all changes in the permanent school records.
  7. Approves the waiver of any school graduation regulations  with the President
  8. Is responsible for the student orientation program in August of each school year.
  9. Coordinates and is a member of the school crisis team.
  10. Supervises the Maintenance Staff the general cleaning of the building.
  11. Recommends to the President the renewal-non-renewal of faculty/coaches.
  12. Provides leadership to the academic leadership team, faculty, staff, students and parents/guardians in developing academic and professional excellence in the Cristo Rey model.
  13. Serves as school liaison to the Corporate Work Study program.
  14. Distributes locker numbers and combinations to all students and keeps accurate records of the combinations of students.
  15. Oversees in conjunction with the Plant Manager the maintenance of all locks, alarms, the distribution of keys etc.
  16. Serves as the advisor to the Parent Advisory Council.
  17. Liaison
  1. Oversees school mailings to keep parents/guardians informed about the school, its programs and activities.
